e-Mail
What is an e-mail address?
Combination of a user name and a domain name that identifies the user .

A user name  - A unique combination of characters , such as letters of the alphabet and / or numbers , that identifies a specific users .

Address book / contacts folder  - Contains a list of names , address , phone numbers ,and e-mail address .

SMTP (Simple Mail Transfer Protocol) - A communications protocol used by some outgoing mail servers .

POP3 - (Post Office Protocol-the latest version of POP)-a communications protocol used by some incoming mail servers .


Instant Messaging
  • Real-time typed conversation with another connected user where you also can exchange photos,videos, and other content .
  • Some IM services support voice and video conversations .
  • Popular IM software includes AIM (AOL Instant Messenger), Facebook messenger , Google Talk , MySpace IM , Windows live Messenger , and Yahoo! Messenger .
VOIP
Conversation that takes place over the Internet using a telephone connected to a computer , mobile device , or other device .
  • VoIP(Voice over IP,or Internet Protocol )also called Internet telephony .
  • Enables users to speak to other users via Internet connection .
  • To connect a calling party to one or more local or long distance called parties .
  • Example : Skype , WeChat , Kakao Talk .
To place an Internet telephone call , you need : 
  • a high-speed Internet connection (such as DSL or Cable Modem)
  • Internet telephone service 
  • a microphone or telephone 
  • internet telephone software or VoIP router 
VoIP services are also available on some mobile services that have wireless Internet service 

message board
  • what is message boards?
    • an online area in which users have written discussion about a particular subject
    • also called as discussion forum
    • type of discussion group
    • not real time
    1. message board is to participate in a discussion, a users posts a message called an article to the newsgroup read and reply to the message.
    2. a thread or threaded discussion, consist of the original article and all subsequent related replies.

    • to a discussion forum for student taking a college course may require a user name and password to access the forum.

    • file transfer protocol
    • internet standard that permits file uploading and downloading with other computers on internet
    • a standard for the exchange of program and data files across the network.
    PROCESS
    •  uploading is the process of transfering files from your computer or mobile device to a server on the internet
    • downloading is the process of transferring files from a server on the internet to your computer or mobile device 
    • example ftp program: filezilla, ableftp, smartftp

    METHOD
    • FTP is one method users to transfer web pages files from their local machine to the server
    • an FTP server is a computer that allows users to upload and download file using FTP
    • an FTP site is a collection of that reside on an FTP server
    • some FTP sites restrict file transfer to those who have authorized account on the FTP server

    what is www?
    • a worldwide collection of electronic document 
    • each electronic document on the webpage which can contain text, graphic, animation, audio, and video.
    • webpages usually have built in connections to other document.

    Explanation

    • a websites is a collection of related web pages and associated items ,such as document and picture ,stored on the web server
    • web server is a computer that deliver request web pages to your computer or mobile device 
    • some web pages are static others are dynamic 
    • visitors to a static web pages all see the same content
    • visitor to a dynamic web pages  , can customize some or all of the viewed content such as desired ,weather for a region or ticket availability for flight.
